C. Kailani (Kai) Memmer, is the managing partner for Glenn Robinson Cathey Memmer & Skaff, PLC / Roanoke, Virginia

Kai Memmer was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 1992 and the North Carolina Bar in 2001.  She is a graduate of Wellesley College and University of Richmond School of Law.  Ms. Memmer has a wide range of experience in representing individuals and corporate, self-insured, and insurance clients in complex product liability, premises liability, local government, tort, transportation, contract, and insurance coverage matters.  She has a state-wide practice and has handled and tried cases in all regions of Virginia in state and federal courts.  In addition to her litigation practice, Ms. Memmer provides pre-litigation advice to clients involving accident investigation, claims handling, and evidence preservation.  Ms. Memmer is a frequent lecturer on litigation issues ranging from product to premises liability and on the handling of cases in state and federal courts.  She has lectured for many organizations, including but not limited to the Virginia State Bar, Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, Virginia CLE, the Virginia Women Attorneys Association, the Virginia State Claims Association, and various Virginia claims associations.  She is a member of the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners, the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, a board member and past president for the Western District of Virginia Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, a member of the USDC Western District of Virginia Local Rules Advisory Committee and the USDC Western District of Virginia Advisory Committee of the Bench and Bar Fund, a member of the  Virginia State Bar Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee and the National Conference of Bar Examiners Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Ms. Memmer is the former president of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association, former executive committee member of the Ted Dalton American Inn of Court, former member of the Boyd-Graves Conference, and a former member of the Board of Governors for the Virginia State Bar Section on the Education of Lawyers, the Virginia State Bar Professionalism Course, the Board of the Virginia State Bar Diversity Conference, a member of the Supreme Court of Virginia’s Committee on Lawyer Well-Being, a member of the Virginia Law Foundation’s Fellows Committee and a member of the Virginia State Bar Diversity Task Force.

Ms. Memmer is AV Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. She has been honored as a 2018 Leader in the Law by Virginia Lawyers Weekly, the 2013 Woman of Achievement in Law by DePaul Community Resources, a recipient of a Leader in Diversity Award, Presented by the Virginia Women Attorneys Association in 2010 and was inducted into the Virginia Law Foundation as a fellow in 2009.

Ms. Memmer is active in her community.  Her prior and current service includes Junior Achievement of the Roanoke Valley, The Salvation Army’s Turning Point Shelter (for women and children of domestic violence), Peace of Mind Project (preparation of estate documents to local first responders), Carilion Institutional Review Board (provides ethical and regulatory oversight of research that involves human subjects by protecting the rights, welfare and well-being of human research participants recruited to participate in research), Wills for Heroes Program, Rule of Law Program, We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution (volunteer judge), and organizes her firm’s charitable Continuing Legal Education course to raise funds for local charities.  She coached recreational youth soccer, basketball, softball and volleyball and travel soccer teams for many years.
