Bio

Mindy McLaughlin was born in New York, raised in Florida, and educated at the University of Florida where she received both her undergraduate and law degrees. Mrs. McLaughlin graduated with her Bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, and was the Collegiate Champion of the McGraw-Hill Public Speaking Competition. She was also the recipient of the R.J. Donald Memorial Scholarship Award for academic excellence achieved through the College of Business Administration. While at the College of Law where she graduated with honors, Mrs. McLaughlin received Book Award Recognition for outstanding achievement in Trial Practice and Legal Counseling. She practices in the areas of professional liability and medical malpractice litigation, where she defends physicians, nurse practitioners, hospitals and other health care providers in negligence and wrongful death actions and also has significant experience providing risk management and defending Department of Health and other Agency actions.  She is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (“ABOTA”), and is the founding partner of her firm which is a Metropolitan First Tier Law Firm in the area of Medical Malpractice Defense in both U.S. News & World Report and Best Law Firms, going on 20 years.

Mrs. McLaughlin continuously receives the highest AV Rating and the distinction of being recognized as a Super Lawyer in the specialty area of Personal Injury Defense: Medical Malpractice in 2011-2020. She is also recognized in Best Lawyers for the Tampa Bay Area and for the State of Florida in the area of Medical Malpractice Defense and Personal Injury Defense. Mrs. McLaughlin had been appointed and served as the Chair of the Trial Lawyers Section of The Florida Bar.  In that capacity, and while serving on its Executive Council, she was also selected to serve on the Legislative Committee, as Chair of the Trial Lawyers’ Summit and Chair of The Teacher’s Law Symposium to further Justice Sandra Day O’Connor’s commitment to teaching civics education.  She has proudly served as faculty for the Advanced Trial Advocacy Conference at UF Law, instructing experienced trial attorneys on advanced trial techniques.  Mrs. McLaughlin was selected to become a member of The International Women’s Leadership Association in recognition of balance and contribution to family, career and community.  She was appointed as the Vice-Chair of The Florida Bar Grievance Committee for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit.  Having served on Team UF Law, Mrs. McLaughlin was instrumental in increasing diversity with the recruiting process for the Law School.  She serves on the Board of Directors for the Athena Society of distinguished professional women.  Mrs. McLaughlin is often recruited to give lectures, presentations and seminars state-wide and nationally on various aspects of trial practice, medical malpractice defense, legal ethics and professionalism.

In addition to The Florida Bar, Mrs. McLaughlin is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Middle and Northern Districts of Florida and the United States Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit. She is a member of the Trial Lawyers Sections of the Hillsborough County Bar Association, The Florida Bar and the American Bar Association. She is also an active member of the Hillsborough Association of Women Lawyers, the Defense Research Institute and the Florida Defense Lawyers Association.
