Bio

ROBERT C. CAMPBELL, III

Biographical Information

ROBERT C. CAMPBELL, III was born in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, December 11, 1942. He received his B. A. in 1964, from Georgetown College where he was inducted into the Pi Kappa Alpha Hall of Fame (1999) and received the 2001 Alumni Achievement Award. He received a Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in 1967. While at Cumberland, he served as Student Bar Representative and Vice-President of the law school Bar Association. Mr. Campbell was admitted to the Bar in 1967. He served in the U. S. Army Infantry attached to JAG 1967 - 1969. Mr. Campbell is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, United States Court of Appeals, Fifth and Eleventh U. S. Circuit Courts and the U. S. District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Alabama.
Mr. Campbell has served as President of the Mobile Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Alabama State Bar Association, Mobile Bar Association, Alabama Council of School Board Attorneys and National School Boards Association Council of School Attorneys. He has served as President of the Alabama Council of School Board Attorneys. He was the former Chief Assistant District Attorney of Mobile County from 1970 through 1973; former Assistant City Attorney of the City of Mobile from 1973 through 1981; Assistant Juvenile Judge, Mobile County Youth Center from 1975 through 1978; law instructor at the University of South Alabama from 1971 through 1987; Attorney for the Board of School Commissioners of Mobile County from 1977 through 2003; Attorney for the Sheriff of Mobile County from 1995 through 2002; Special Assistant Attorney General, State of Alabama from 1977 through present; General Counsel for the Alabama School of Math & Science from 1993 through present; Attorney for the Town of Dauphin Island from January 2001 through present; Attorney for the Mobile County Board of Equalization from February 2004 through present, Attorney responsible for the creation of the City School Systems in the Cities of Saraland, Alabama (January 7, 2008), Satsuma, Alabama (June 4, 2012) and Chickasaw, Alabama (June 22, 2012) and has remained the School Board Attorney for all three systems through present. Mr. Campbell was selected by his peers from 2007 through 2017 to be included in The Best Lawyers in Alabama. Mr. Campbell was also selected by his peers from 2007 through 2017 to be included in The Best Lawyers in America in five practice areas, Education Law, Commercial Litigation, Litigation - First Amendment, Litigation - Labor and Employment, and Litigation - Municipal. He is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers (Martindale-Hubbell) and various other national registries. He has been recognized by LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell with its highest rating, AV-Preeminent for thirty-three consecutive years (from 1984-2017). Most recently he was recognized by the LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell Judicial Edition with the AV Preeminent rating which is the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards reflecting the confidential opinions of members of the Bar and Judiciary for years 2011 through 2017. Also, the law firm of Campbell, Duke & Campbell has been included as “Best Law Firms” in the U. S. News and Best Law Firms in the United States ratings for years. Mr. Campbell was recently selected as an AV Preeminent 2017 Elite Lawyer of the South by American Lawyer Media and Martindale-Hubbell to be featured in the National Law Journal.
Mr. Campbell has served on the Board of Trustees of the United States Sports Academy since 1993 and has been Chairman of the Board since 1999 through present. He served as Chairman of the Board of a local bank in Mobile, Alabama for over twelve years and is presently serving on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.
Mr. Campbell is married to Elaine King Campbell and are the parents of four sons, David, Brett, Craig and Nash.
