Bio

Scot G. Doyen is a shareholder at Clausen Miller, with 30 years’ experience in the trial of commercial, personal injury and first-party insurance cases, having tried over 150 cases to verdict in state and federal courts across Texas and in other states. Scot also has extensive appellate experience, having successfully briefed before the U.S. Supreme Court and successfully briefed and argued before the Texas Supreme Court, the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and many of the Texas intermediate courts of appeals.

Scot is uniquely experienced in a variety of complex trial proceedings, as well as somewhat unconventional trial work. This includes frequently being engaged to come in alongside trial counsel to assist with the preparation and presentation of key fact witnesses and corporate representatives. Scot is also frequently called upon for advice and representation, both across Texas and nationally, related to the coordination of corporate discovery responses utilized across multiple jurisdictions.

Scot has also been directly involved in the creation and/or management of fourteen (14) MDLs, serving as liaison counsel in most of those. In addition, Scot currently serves as coordinating counsel for all Texas first-party litigation for two national insurance carriers, as well as two regional insurance carriers, which includes supervision of hundreds of lawsuits being defended by various law firms across Texas.

Prior to Clausen Miller, Scot served as name partner at a prominent Texas insurance law firm and, in addition to maintaining his active trial practice, served for three years as outside general counsel for a regional property insurance carrier that had approximately $150,000,000 in annual premium. In this position, he served on the company’s executive staff and was involved in reinsurance presentations and negotiations, real estate matters, HR matters, underwriting issues, product development and regulatory and compliance issues.

Scot is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Only 5% of the lawyers in Texas are Board Certified in any area of law, and only about 750 are certified civil trial specialists.
